Approximately 1% of the population are affected by Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). It is a chronic, systemic inflammatory disorder that may affect many tissues and organs.  Principally attacks the joints producing an inflammatory synovitis that often progresses to destruction of the articular cartilage and ankylosis of the joints. Is can also causeinflammation in the lungs, pericardium, pleura and sclera. Although the cause of rheumatoid arthritis is unknown, autoimmunity plays a pivotal role in its chronicity and progression.

Symptoms

Joint pain & swelling that can be tender to the touch. red and puffy hands, firm bumps of tissue under the skin on the arms (rheumatoid nodules); other symptoms can include fatigue, fever, weight loss and morning stiffness that may last for hours
